American Red Cross Lifeguard Course

All Course Days are Mandatory For Each Class
This Red Cross class is for people interested in being certified as a lifeguard and is required for employment as a GS-2 lifeguard for the summer of 2026. Participants must be 15 or older to sign up for the course. Participants must:
Swim 150 yards, continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Immediately after swimming 150 yards, you will tread water for 2 minutes without the use of your hands. After 2 minutes tread, the swimmer will finish the event with a 50-yard swim.
Tread water for two minutes without using their hands.
Complete a timed event within one minute and 40 seconds. Swim goggles are not allowed.
โข Starting in the water, swim 20 meters.
โข Then surface dive 7-10 feet and retrieve
a 10-pound object.
โข Next, swim 20 yards back to the start point, holding
the 10-pound object with your face at or near the surface.
Successful completion will earn you a two-year certification as a lifeguard, and a pretest is required for enrollment. It is mandatory that all students complete the course within the scheduled time frame to ensure full understanding of the material and to receive the Lifeguard Certification.
