Our Mission

School Liaison Program Managers are committed to outreach, advocacy, and partnership initiatives that generate real-time solutions for military-connected students in grades Pre-K-12 as they face global educational challenges and transitions.

Our Goals

      • Connect schools, families, and communities to meet the unique needs of Pre-K-12 military-connected students
      • Cultivate communication pathways between families, schools, community stakeholders and the military
      • Customize real-time solutions for military-connected students facing transitional barriers and educational gaps
      • Collaborate with community stakeholders to build a platform for enhanced educational opportunities and partnerships
      • Recommend professional development for educators to understand the military lifestyle
      • Construct a network of extensive resources for building resilient communities
      • Create a system of support for military connected students experiencing parental deployment or separation

With each move, military children and families face many school-related challenges.

Military Interstate Children Compact Commission (MIC3)

The Interstate Compact addresses issues that military children face when transitioning from one school to another. The Compact covers educational issues such as enrollment, placement and attendance, eligibility, and graduation. For more information, access the MIC3 website at https://www.mic3.net.

JBSA District Map

Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) resides in the heart of San Antonio (Bexar County), the seventh-largest city in the United States. JBSA’s three primary operating locations—JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, JBSA-Lackland, and JBSA-Randolph, plus eight other operating areas are located on 67 square miles, throughout the city. There are lots of options when it comes to living, working and educational opportunities.

Impact Aid

Impact Aid is a federal program that provides funding for a portion of the costs associated with educating children of military personnel. School Liaison Services

School Liaison Program Managers provide and/or support the following:

      • Transitional concerns affecting military-connected students and assist in facilitating solutions.
      • Provide families and school personnel with resources focused on parental absence, to include the cycle of deployment andacademic, social and emotional impact.
      • Serve as installation subject matter experts to Commander/Command Staff/Parents for local Pre-K-12 educational concerns regarding military child education.
      • Share information reference homeschooling, homeschool communities, local policies, and regulations of state/local educational agencies.
      • Create a network of parents, community partners, and military/civilian personnel to support installation, school system, and community.
      • Leverage installation/school resources to provide graduating military students access to post-secondary information and opportunities.
      • Connect families with appropriate resources needed to navigate educational systems.

More Information

The School Liaison Program Managers are here to assist Department of Defense employees and their families in making a smooth transition in and out of our local public, private, and homeschool environments. The School Liaison Office is the primary contact for all Pre-K-12 school related matters, advocates for the needs of the military students, makes referrals, provide educational options and networking opportunities, facilitate workshops to address current trends, and is the liaison between the base, the schools, and the local community.
