JBSA Outdoor Recreation

All Outdoor Recreation Centers require a Boaters Safety Course certificate from Texas Parks and Wildlife in order for customers to rent their boats. Online courses can be taken at boaterexam.com, Boat-ed.com, BOATsmartexam.com, BoatUS.org and iLearnToBoat.com. The Kayak and Canoe safety course is required for non-powered boating equipment. Water Safety Instructor Class (Fort Sam)

FSH Aquatic Centers

This class is for people who want to learn how to teach swimming lessons. This Red Cross class is one of the required certifications to be hired as a GS-3 WSI at JBSA Pools. Cost is $180 per person. Participants must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke and 20 yards of butterfly at the Level 4 to get in the class.
