Fort Sam Houston Independent School District (FSHISD) Board of Trustees Vacancy Jan. 27-Feb. 21 Fort Sam Houston Independent School District (FSHISD) Board of Trustees are now accepting nominations for one vacant seat. FSHISD is seeking a dedicated and community-focused individual to join its Board of Trustees. The positions must be filled by either a military member or DoD civilian living on or employed by Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston. To qualify for the board, a volunteer must: • Be a qualified voter • Take the official oath of office • Serve without compensation Trustee will take an official oath of office and serve without compensation for 2 years. Interested applicants must submit a resume no later than 1700 on February 21 to the School Liaison Program Manager via email at [email protected]. JBSA Youth Programs provides high-quality programs supporting engineering concepts, arts, life skills, leadership, cooking, physical fitness, and field trips for youth ages 9-18. The first-place winner in each sub-category will receive a $500 Amazon Gift Card, the second place will receive $400, and the third place will receive $300! Categories: Adult: Novice Adult: Accomplished Teens: 13 – 17 years Pre-teens: 9 – 12 years Children: 6 – 8 years 2D Art is considered to be two-dimensional as a drawing, sketch, or painting. Accepted media include oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, mixed media, gouache, egg tempera, pen and ink, charcoal, colored pencil, scratchboard, markers and metal point. (Digital art is not an accepted medium). 3D Art is considered to be three-dimensional such as, sculpture, ceramic, pottery, clay, glass art, metals, jewelry, wood, fiber, and textile. Photography is considered to be the practice of capturing images by exposing light-sensitive film or a digital sensor directly to the scene being photographed. It involves composing a single image in-camera, without significant post-processing or manipulation. Traditional photography aims to depict a scene or subject as faithfully as possible, relying on natural lighting and minimal alterations. Parents Night Out (PNO) Child and Youth Programs can give parents that much-needed break through the Parents Night Out Program. The cost is $35 per child, with a sibling discount. Parker Youth Center** Due to anticipated inclement weather, the Month of the Military Child celebration scheduled for Saturday, April 5, will now be held indoors at the Ed W. Parker Youth Center.  The event will still take place from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. We are excited to continue celebrating our military children and their resilience at this new location. The Ed W. The Great Texas Freedom Fest scheduled for April 2025 Community members will have the opportunity to explore Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston at the Great Texas Freedom Fest on April 12 from 3-9:30 p.m.  The installation will open its gates to the public for this event, free to all who attend. The theme is “United in Service,” and the open house will feature live music, food trucks, museum tours, military demonstrations, and family activities.
