As of Nov. 1, all the boat ramps at the JBSA Recreation Park at Canyon Lake will be closed due to low water levels and safety concerns.
Update: VHIC Card
To be able to access the Canyon Lake park with the Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC), it has to state under the picture: Service connected, Medal of honor, Purple Heart or Former POW. Then you will have to go to one of the JBSA installation visitor centers to be vetted. They do a background check and then they place a small JBSA decal on the back of the card. That decal is the only way to gain access to the park. VHIC members can have four others besides themselves in the same vehicle.
Current Restrictions
Each vehicle coming into the park must have an Adult DOD ID card holder. If staying over night you will have to submit your guest list either through the call center email or by phone the day prior before 1pm. There can be no changes or adding a guest list after 1pm the day before check in for any reason. We have to have our numbers prior to, especially for weekends or holidays to let guest in for day use. The list cannot actually exceed the number of people the lodging unit sleeps now. No exceptions. Check in is between 3pm-8pm, no check ins after 8pm for any reason. Check out is at 11am, if you wish to stay longer you must purchase a day pass before 11am.
